A visit from Granny!

Adam's Mom came to stay with us on Tues. through Thurs. It was so nice to have her here to visit with Cori. I have been working with Cori and her pronunciation of "Granny" (as Adam's Mom likes to be called) and by the time Granny left, Cori was spitting out something that certainly resembled the word "granny."

Cori thoroughly enjoyed her time with Granny. They played on the floor with blocks and Granny read books and Granny brought presents too! Cori's favorite present was the box that Granny brought all her other presents in! Go figure. Cori and Granny had a blast playing with that box. They filled it with balls and kicked the balls out of the box and then filled it back up again. Cori used it as a stage to sit on, and a self imposed play area. And silly me, i buy her toys! From now on it will be different sized boxes!

Cori and Granny and i went to the park and Granny took some good film of Cori playing. I have some cute pictures too and i will post them soon. We went to Sam's and had lunch at Golden Corral and then came home and took a nap. Well, Granny and Mommy tried to take naps, Cori wasn't that keen on the idea. We can't wait to go visit Granny at her house soon! Cori really had a wonderful time. Thanks Granny!!

If you'll indulge me...

Lately, i have been noticing the little things that say the most to me. Many of you know the struggle Adam and i went through to have Cori. The infertility, the miscarriage, the genetic scare. Every day i feel so blessed to have her with us.

But it is the little things that make me smile. This morning i was taking my shower and looking at me from the back of the shower stall was a goofy frog hanging in a turtle net bath toy keeper. That would never have been in there 17 months ago. The corner of my living room where i used to imagine a corner china hutch is now filled to the brim with all of Cori's toys. Adam's sports movie DVDs are nestled right in the entertainment center along with the Backyardigans and Dora's Pirate Adventure. We had to rearrange the kitchen to make the best space available for Cori's highchair. But the most interesting and loving change is the following:

Adam has preset our cable boxes so that when you turn the tv on, it goes right to the channel that we most watch. When i get ready in the morning in the bedroom, i watch the news, so the bedroom tv comes on to channel 7. In the living room is where Adam gets ready for work so the living room tv comes on to ESPN. But some time ago, Adam reprogrammed the living room tv so that it comes on to Channel 116, which in our house is Noggin. This is the channel that Cori watches so she can see Franklin and Little Bear and the Backyardigans. Those of you who know Adam well, know that this is a big step for him. Giving up the automatic sports channel so that his daughter can watch her shows. I know it sounds mushy. And i don't care. It is these little things that make me love my husband and make me feel blessed for having my family.

If i wanted to i could concentrate an all the things that are wrong with the house, wrong with the world and wrong with whatever. And believe me, there was a time when i did just that. But Cori has brought me a different perspective. A feeling of family togetherness and a feeling of happiness that wasn't there before. Well, it probably was there, but she makes me see it. And to me, that is the miracle of Cori.

She's A Natural

Adam brought home the Rock Band PS2 game. He borrowed it from a friend. It has the guitar and mic, and drums. So tonight, Adam was playing guitar and i was singing. Cori took the microphone in hand and began singing into it. Like a Pro! She loved it! She couldn't get enough of hearing her voice over the tv speakers.

She wasn't just saying words, she was actually singing. It was so FUNNY! Although, i wonder if she is too young for American Idol? Just a thought....

We have to get this on video! And maybe someone could mention to a Grandma or a Granny that a microphone would make a wonderful Christmas gift for a short little someone i know!

Have I Mentioned the Verbal Explosion?

Cori said her first sentence. That's right, an actual sentence. And both Adam and i were there to witness it. Adam came home for some lunch on Monday, and he and i were talking in the kitchen. Cori strolled up to us with her sippy cup in hand and said, "I nee summm milk." Neither Adam or i could believe it at first. So i said to Cori, "What do you need?" and she said, "I nee summm milk." So we gave her some milk and off she went.

She has never brough us her sippy cup before and requested anything, much less milk! Adam and i were both pretty stunned. But it was really really cool!! Our baby is growing up so fast!

It was a Blustery Day

Well, we nearly blew away yesterday. Hurricane Ike came for a visit and with 70 mile an hour gusts we lost some tree limbs but the house is still standing and we never lost power. Unlike Kerry and her family and Mom and Dad who did lose power, along with about 168,000 other homes in the area. Cori looked out the window and said. "Ooooooo". I don't know if she was mimicking the sound of the wind or was just impressed at the sight of all the stuff blowing by!

Cori and Grandpa

This is how Cori and Grandpa like to spend their time after they have been playing hard outside. I just showed Cori this picture of her and Grandpa and i asked her who was that sitting with baby Cori. She replied "Gampa pa pa". So Gampa Pa Pa it is!

Pudding Paint Pictures and Hanford's Pet Bug

Here are the pictures of Cori with her pudding paints and of course Hanford and his pet locust.

Everyday Things

Not much new here to report. Just everyday goings on. I turned 36 on Saturday and in a mid-life crisis moment colored my hair. Deep Golden Brown. Looks less golden and more purple but at least all that gray is gone!!

Cori is getting better and better at her words. There are so many new ones it is hard to keep track! She also is learning her body parts. Nose, eyes, teeth, ears, head, toes and hands. She is like a little sponge, soaking up anything she can.

We ran into my former boss on Saturday at Sam's Club. Of course he couldn't see Cori and i in perfect Mommy-Daughter mode, OH NO, he had to see us while Cori was sitting in the shopping cart pulling my shirt up over my head to tickle my tummy for the 20th time!!! And of course i was telling her in that "stern Mommy voice" "that is about enough!" Oh the glories of parenthood!

Cori will kill me for this someday!

So these are pics of Cori morphed. My fave is with the glasses! Her face wouldn't quite fit the mold so i did the best i could.

Emily, you made me do this!

So i decided to copy a page from my friend Emily and i have morphed myself into what you see pictured here. I had all of these hairdos at one time or another. I think i am going to grow my hair out long again!

New Words

Here are a few of Cori's new words.
Brush
This - for when she wants something.
Lunch
Oooops (thanks to the book that Jenni and her family send Cori about a turkey who can't seem to dress himself properly)
Jump jump jump - when she is dancing around to the music
Clap clap clap - also a dancing term
and finally Milk.

Every day there are new words... i am sure i am forgetting some!

Just now, at 9:00am, Adam came home to get his lunchbox and as he was headed back out the door, Cori waived and said "Bye Daddy!" This is the very first time she has ever said this. She says "Bye bye" all the time but never before has she added "Daddy" to the end. Adam and i both got a little teary. Kids are pretty awesome.

Fingerpaints and Bugs

Hi Ho There! Monday was a great day! The weather was beautiful and we were lucky enough to be able to go to Kerry's house where my Mother was hosting a Labor Day party. Brian and Jen were there with Abigail and Jaqueline and Cori had so much fun playing outside with them and Molly and Erin. Scott had the girls play a game of toss the rings on the post and EVERYONE was a winner! Yay! Playdoh for everyone!

Cori is cutting her "pointy teeth", you know, her little fang teeth, and the nights have been an adventure. She has developed a runny nose to go along with the teething pain and while i have never been one to advocate medicating your kid for no good reason, the last three nights she has only been able to sleep after a dose of baby Motrin. Poor kid. Ok, ok, Mommy and Daddy haven't been able to get much sleep before a dose of Motrin either!

Yesterday, we tried fingerpainting. What? you say, finger painting with a 17 month old??? Well, i saw on a tv show where the mother used chocolate and vanilla pudding for her toddler to fingerpaint with and so we tried it. I only had chocolate and tapioca but we had the same results. Cori LOVED it!! I have pictures i will download asap! I taped some blank paper to her high chair tray and she painted to her heart's content. She painted her tummy and her face and her arms and her head as well, but hey, it was only pudding. Actually, she ate about as much as she painted with! Afterward we just dumped her in the tub. Fun for everyone!

And now on to the bug portion of our post. Yesterday, i went outside with the dogs and saw a locust upsidedown on the patio. I picked it up by the wing to toss it away from the patio and it was still alive!!!!! Scared the living daylights out of me! So i screamed and dropped it and Hanford ran over to inspect it. He batted it around once, twice and then picked it up in his mouth and trotted off into the yard with it. He dropped it on the ground and lay beside it and covered it with his paw. Then picked his paw up to see if it was still there and the bug flittered around a bit and he picked it back up in his mouth and played with it some more with his paws. I can't type how funny it was but trust me, Adam and i were laughing pretty hard. We decided that Hanford would call it "Squishy and it would be his squishy" (another Finding Nemo reference) I have pictures of this too. Hanford held that bug captive for a good long while and i think it finally died of fright! Anyway, that's what's going on here.

I am trying to capture a picture of Cori and her new "frowny" look. I gave her a stern look the other day and she imitated it back at me. Good Lord! It is the funniest thing ever! Adam and i have to turn away when she does it so she doesn't see us laughing. You can't effectively discipline your kid if you are laughing hysterically at her at the same time! Ta Ta for now!
